Am I eligible for Legal Aid of Marin?
You are eligible for a 30 minute legal consultation if you are a Marin County Resident and 1) are 60 years old or older or 2) are low income based on the Federal Housing and Urban Development (HUD) standards.
Eligibility for an initial consultation is not a guarantee of representation. Legal Aid of Marin will prioritize our legal services to assist individuals and households that are very low-income. Legal Aid of Marin reserves the right to request proof of income.
What age is considered a senior?
To be eligible for older adult or senior legal services at Legal Aid or Marin you must be 60 years old or older.
What if my case is in Marin but I am not a Marin County Resident?
If you are not a Marin county resident, you do not qualify for a consultation at Legal Aid of Marin. You should call the Legal Aid office in the county where you reside and apply to receive assistance there. We do on occasion take referrals from Legal Aid offices in other counties.

Landlords and Employers are not eligible for our services.

Our normal business hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00-12:30, 1:30-5:00. See Clinics page for more information about special schedules.

No, we do not answer legal questions by phone or e-mail. You must schedule an appointment for a legal consultation.

How much does Legal Aid of Marin charge?
Legal Aid of Marin does not charge for legal services. We do accept donations.

I am nervous about my appointment, can someone come in the room with me?
Yes, but our general policy is to meet with only the individual who has the legal question. This ensures protection of the attorney/client privilege. If someone joins you during your legal appointment, the attorney/client privilege is broken.
What should I bring with me to my appointment?
Bring all relevant paperwork to your appointment including scheduled court dates and correspondence related to your case. It is also very important that you bring the names and addresses of all individuals and/or businesses involved in the legal dispute or problem.
Will I be meeting one on one with an attorney?
Under most circumstances you will meet initially with a non-attorney with follow-up and advice provided by an attorney.

No, Your appointment with Legal Aid of Marin and everything discussed during that appointment is confidential.
